X's Help Center documents two native ways to schedule a post: the ads.x.com Composer and X Pro. Here's how each works, where scheduled posts live, how to schedule threads and polls, and when a team needs a shared calendar.
## Key takeaways

- To schedule a post on X, use one of the two native routes X's Help Center documents: the Composer at ads.x.com (write the post, open the dropdown next to Post, pick a date and time, select Schedule) or X Pro, X's desktop tool for Premium subscribers.

- X Pro is the native route for scheduled threads and polls. It isn't available on mobile.

- Each route keeps scheduled posts in its own list. Most "missing" scheduled posts are sitting in a different list.

- Standard posts are capped at 280 characters and four media items. X Premium subscribers can write longer posts.

- The X API has no publish-time field, so a twitter scheduler holds your post and sends it at the time you set. Sked Social auto-publishes to X from the same calendar as your other channels, with X analytics included.

Scheduling a post on X takes about a minute once you know where to look. The catch is that X documents only some of its scheduling options, and each one keeps its own list. Here's what X's Help Center confirms as of October 13, 2026, and when a team needs more than the native tools.

## How do you schedule a post on X? (step by step)

**The short answer:** X's Help Center documents two native ways to schedule a post. In the X Ads Composer at ads.x.com, write your post, select the dropdown arrow next to Post, choose a date and time, and select Schedule. In X Pro, the post composer supports scheduled posts, threads, and polls. You can also use a third-party scheduler. X calls them posts now, but scheduling a tweet works the same way.

Some accounts also see a schedule option in the standard x.com composer. X's Help Center doesn't document it as of October 2026, so this guide sticks to the routes X does document.

### Route 1: the Composer at ads.x.com

This is the route [X's Help Center walks through step by step](https://help.x.com/en/business-and-advertising/scheduled-tweets).

1. Log in to ads.x.com.

1. Open the Composer tab on the left.

1. Write your post. Add your copy, photos, videos, and cards.

1. Select the dropdown arrow next to Post in the upper right corner of Composer.

1. Choose the date and time you want the post to go live.

1. Select Schedule.

According to X, the post isn't discoverable on X until the time you set, and it goes live with that timestamp. X frames this feature around Promoted-only posts, so schedule one test post before you rely on it for organic content.

### Route 2: X Pro

X Pro, formerly TweetDeck, is X's multi-column desktop tool. X lists access to it among the [X Premium features](https://help.x.com/en/using-x/x-premium), so you need a paid X subscription. Its post composer lets you create threads and add media and polls, including in scheduled posts. The thread steps are below.

### Route 3: a third-party scheduler

A scheduler holds your post and publishes it to X at the time you set. It's the route most teams pick when X is one channel among several. If you schedule X alongside Instagram and LinkedIn, a dedicated [X scheduler](https://skedsocial.com/integrations/x-twitter-scheduler) saves you from repeating the same steps in every app.

## Where do you find, edit, and delete scheduled posts on X?

**The short answer:** it depends on where you scheduled the post. In ads.x.com, open the Posts tab and change the "Posts: Promoted" dropdown to "Scheduled" to view, edit, or delete scheduled posts. X Pro and third-party tools each keep their own list.

### Posts scheduled from ads.x.com

To edit a scheduled post, hover over it, select the three dots, then Edit. To delete it, select the three dots, then Delete. Two details worth knowing:

- Scheduled posts don't show in Ads Manager until they go live.

- The Post ID stays the same after the post publishes, so links or tracking you set up in advance keep working.

### Posts scheduled in X Pro or a third-party tool

Each tool keeps its own list. Don't assume a post scheduled in one place will show up in another. This is the most common reason behind "my scheduled post vanished". It didn't vanish. It's sitting in a different list.

The fix is to pick one route per account and stick to it. If three people each schedule from a different place, nobody has the full picture.

### How Sked Social handles it

In Sked Social, every scheduled post sits on the [rebuilt Sked Social Content Calendar](https://skedsocial.com/blog/new-the-sked-social-calendar-rebuilt), X included. Click a post to open a preview sheet with its content, time, channel, status, and comments. Drag it to a new day to reschedule. Filters narrow the view by channel, label, or account.

## Can you schedule posts on the X mobile app?

**The short answer:** X Pro isn't available on mobile, and X's Help Center doesn't document a schedule option in the X app for iPhone or Android as of October 2026. If you need to schedule from your phone, a scheduler with its own mobile app is the reliable route.

Here's what's confirmed. X's Help Center says [Pro "is not available on mobile"](https://help.x.com/en/using-x/x-pro), and you need a viewport larger than 500px wide and 500px tall to use it.

Here's what isn't. Some guides say the X app can schedule posts. Others say only X Premium adds it. X doesn't settle it either way. If your app shows a schedule option, use it. If it doesn't, don't build your routine on a workaround X never promised to keep.

## How do you schedule threads, polls, and long posts on X?

**The short answer:** schedule threads and polls in X Pro, which comes with X Premium. Its composer lets you build a thread, add media and polls, and schedule the whole thing. Posts longer than 280 characters also need X Premium.

### Threads and polls: use X Pro

Plenty of guides claim polls can't be scheduled on X. X's own Help Center disagrees. Its X Pro page says the composer lets you create threads and add photos, videos, GIFs, polls, or emojis, including in scheduled posts.

To schedule a thread in X Pro:

1. Open X Pro in a desktop browser and open the post composer.

1. Write the first post, then add each following post to the thread.

1. Add any media or a poll to the posts that need them.

1. Choose the scheduling option, set the date and time, and confirm.

1. Check that the thread appears in your scheduled list.

Before you schedule, read the thread top to bottom in one go. Threads fail on flow, not typos.

### Long posts: X Premium only

According to X's Premium help page, subscribers can post up to 25,000 characters. Everyone else is capped at 280. One thing to watch: X's help pages don't agree. The X Premium page says 25,000 characters, while the how-to-post page still mentions 4,000. Test a long post before you schedule anything that depends on it.

### A note for developers

The [X API v2 create-post request](https://docs.x.com/x-api/posts/create-post) has fields for text, media, polls, replies, quote posts, and communities, but no field for a publish time. Schedulers hold the post on their side and send it to X at the time you set.

## What can't X's native scheduling tools do? Native vs third-party compared

**The short answer:** X's documented routes schedule posts on X and nowhere else. Neither gives you a shared calendar across channels, and X doesn't document an approval step in either. A third-party scheduler adds multi-account, multi-network scheduling in one calendar.

Last verified October 13, 2026, against X's Help Center. "Not documented by X" means X's help pages don't confirm it either way.

| | X Pro | ads.x.com Composer | Third-party scheduler |
| --- | --- | --- | --- |
| What you need | X Premium | Access to ads.x.com | A subscription to the tool |
| Mobile | No | Not documented by X | Depends on the tool |
| Threads | Yes | Not documented by X | Depends on the tool |
| Polls | Yes | Not documented by X | Depends on the tool |
| Other networks | No | No | Usually |
| Shared multi-channel calendar | No | No | Most tools |
| Approvals before publishing | Not documented by X | Not documented by X | Some tools |

If you run one X account, post a few times a week, and nobody signs off on your posts, native scheduling is fine. Don't pay for software you don't need.

The math changes when any of these are true:

- **You manage several accounts.** Switching between profiles to schedule is where wrong-account posts happen.

- **You post to more than X.** Writing the same campaign in four apps multiplies the chance of a typo or a missed slot.

- **Someone has to approve posts.** Screenshots in Slack are not an approval process.

- **You need to see the whole week.** Separate scheduled lists can't show you gaps or clashes.

Tools such as Buffer, Hootsuite, and Sked Social all cover this ground. The differences show up in approvals, reporting, and how many channels share a calendar. Our roundup of [social media management tools for agencies](https://skedsocial.com/blog/best-social-media-management-tools-for-agencies) breaks those differences down.

## How do you schedule X posts for a team or clients with Sked Social?

**The short answer:** connect your X accounts, create the post, pick a time or a queue slot, and it lands on a shared Content Calendar next to your other channels. On Accelerate and Custom, send it for review through a no-login link. Once approved, Sked Social auto-publishes it to X at the time you set.

Most guides on X scheduling for teams skip sign-off, and it's the part [agencies](https://skedsocial.com/solutions/agencies) and multi-brand teams actually struggle with. One person, one account is easy. Four people and six brands needs structure.

1. **Connect your X accounts.** Add X alongside your other social accounts. Every X account gets its own posting queue.

1. **Create the post.** Write the copy, or use Sked Social's AI tools to draft a caption, then edit it to fit.

1. **Choose the time.** Pick a specific date and time, or drop the post into the account's queue so your cadence stays steady.

1. **Check the calendar.** The post appears on the [Content Calendar](https://skedsocial.com/features/scheduling) next to everything else going out that week, alongside Instagram, Facebook, LinkedIn, TikTok, Threads, and more.

1. **Send it for review.** On Accelerate and Custom, share a no-login review link through [Sked Social approvals](https://skedsocial.com/features/approvals). Reviewers can get reminder emails, daily or weekly, until they review.

1. **It auto-publishes.** Once the post is approved, Sked Social publishes it to X at the time you set.

### A worked example

Picture a four-person agency running X for six client brands. Every Monday, the account lead uses Bulk Create to load the week's posts in one upload. Each brand's posts get a label, so the calendar filters can show one client at a time. On Tuesday, each client gets a no-login review link, reads their posts, and approves or comments. By Wednesday, the week is locked.

That agency needs four users, six X accounts, and client review links. Grow (US$69/mo) includes three users and six social accounts. Accelerate (US$199/mo) includes six users and 10 social accounts, plus internal and external approvals. So this team would start on Accelerate.

### What's available on every plan

- The rebuilt Content Calendar, with drag-and-drop rescheduling, an agenda pane, and filters.

- Bulk Create, for loading a batch of posts in one upload.

- AI caption writing.

- [Labels](https://skedsocial.com/features/labels), so you can tag posts by client, campaign, or content pillar.

### Reporting on X

When the posts are live, [Sked Social analytics](https://skedsocial.com/features/analytics) covers X too. You see impressions, engagement rate, profile clicks, and link clicks, with X next to Instagram, TikTok, and LinkedIn in one report.

## What image specs and posting times should you use for scheduled X posts?

**The short answer:** keep standard posts to 280 characters and four media items, check image dimensions before you queue, and test two or three time slots in your audience's time zone rather than trusting a generic best-time chart.

X's Help Center allows [up to 280 characters and up to four media items per post](https://help.x.com/en/using-x/how-to-post), for example two photos, one GIF, and one video. For image dimensions, aspect ratios, and video specs, see our [X (Twitter) image size guide](https://skedsocial.com/blog/twitter-post-size-guide).

Timing matters because X is a smaller daily habit than many marketers assume. Pew Research Center found that [10% of US adults use X daily](https://www.pewresearch.org/internet/2025/11/20/americans-social-media-use-2025/), in a survey of 5,123 adults conducted from February 24 to March 2, 2025. Your audience isn't on X all day. You need to catch the window when they are.

You'll find charts claiming the best time to post on X is Tuesday at 10am. We couldn't find an independent, recent study that backs any of them up. Test it instead:

1. Pick two or three time slots that make sense for your audience.

1. Schedule similar posts into each slot for three or four weeks.

1. Compare engagement in your analytics.

1. Keep the winners, swap out the losers, and repeat each quarter.

Always schedule in your audience's time zone, not yours. If you're in Sydney and your audience is in London, 9am your time is late evening the night before for them.

## Why didn't your scheduled X post publish? (and how to fix it)

**The short answer:** the most common causes are a wrong time zone, a post over 280 characters without X Premium, a disconnected scheduler, or looking in the wrong scheduled list. Check those first, then check every tool your team schedules from.

1. **The time zone was wrong.** The post did publish, just at 3am for your audience. Check the time zone before you confirm.

1. **The post was over 280 characters.** Without X Premium, a scheduler may accept a longer draft that X then rejects. Count characters first.

1. **The scheduler lost access.** If you changed your password, revoked access, or the connection expired, the post can't go out. Reconnect the account and reschedule anything that failed.

1. **You're looking in the wrong list.** Each route keeps its own scheduled list. Check every tool your team uses, then agree on one route per account.

1. **The media broke X's limits.** More than four media items, or a file X won't accept, can block a post.

1. **It's stuck waiting for approval.** A post that never got signed off can sit in review past its publish time. Use a calendar where review status sits next to the publish time.

The pattern across all six: most failures are visibility problems. If you can see every scheduled post, its status, and its account in one place, you catch the issue before your audience does.

## What are the best practices for scheduling X posts in 2026?

- **Pick one scheduling route per account.** Mixing routes is how posts get duplicated or lost.

- **Write the thread before you open the scheduler.** Draft long threads in a doc, read them aloud, then paste them in.

- **Keep a buffer.** Schedule launch posts at least a day ahead, not 10 minutes before they go live.

- **Batch, then review.** Write a week of X posts in one sitting, then review them the next day with fresh eyes. Plan. Draft. Schedule.
