Q&A with Annie-Mai Hodge from Girl Power Marketing

As the founder of Girl Power Marketing, Annie has built a reputation for knowing when to ride a trend and when to burn it to the ground. She can spot a viral TikTok hook before it blows up, rethink underperforming content until it shines, and still make time for a comforting pasta bowl after a long day. For Annie, curiosity isn’t just a skill — it’s her secret weapon.

1. What would your MySpace song be in 2025?

I’m not even going to lie, it’d be This is Halloween from The Nightmare Before Christmas. It’s on repeat, always. Or something by Nickelback – I’m not ashamed to publicly announce my love for them.

2. Instagram or TikTok? Defend your answer.

You’re going to hate my answer but…

As a consumer: Instagram

As a marketer: TikTok

Instagram is the main place where I’m able to see what all of my friends are doing, and stay connected with them. Whereas TikTok, I’m obsessed with how it’s evolving as a search engine and the visibility it’s giving creators and brands.

3. What’s in your camera roll way too much?

Screenshots that I never look at again, but I will never delete because… What if I need them?

4. A tool, app, or sneaky little shortcut you swear by?

Keep a content graveyard. Save every post that didn’t perform the way you hoped. After a month or two, revisit it with fresh eyes. Maybe the timing was off, the hook needs tweaking, or there’s a better way to present the idea. Repurpose and give it a second, third, fourth, or fifth life. Repeated messaging is a good thing, make your content work harder.

5. Most underrated social media skill?

Curiosity! Keep learning. Ask questions – even the ones that feel silly. And challenge everything: your assumptions, your content, your strategy.

6. If you could ban one trend forever, what would it be?

Dubai Chocolate. Please make it stop. Oh, and if you mean in marketing, I wish brands would stop creating those oversized GCI campaigns. I don’t care that there are (or in fact, there aren't) huge Jacquemus bags in Paris.

7. Who are 3 brands/creators you’re vibing with right now?

I love Books with Gray and Garett from Goldies on TikTok – such underrated creators. As for brands, I’m obsessed with RSPB’s content. You won’t regret looking at their TikTok content.

8. Go-to comfort food after a chaotic day?

Anything in a bowl! There’s just something about eating pasta, cereal, etc that’s extremely comforting!

9. Best DM you’ve ever received (or sent)?

I’m not going to say who (because I’m mysterious) but a celebrity follows me on Instagram, and they DM’d me to say they loved my content.

10. What’s your biggest ick on LinkedIn right now?

How much time do you have? But the most prolific offenders of giving me the ick are the people who are constantly preaching about how they’ve made six-figures, and in reality, they’re just trying to push a sh*tty course about how you can make that money too.
