How to Schedule Image and Video Instagram Stories with Sked

How to Schedule Image and Video Instagram Stories with Sked

About six months ago, we launched our beta of Instagram Story scheduling (recently adding video, as well as image scheduling).

Since then, we’ve posted thousands of Instagram stories — and based on your feedback, added the option to include a URL for the story. If you haven’t tried scheduling Story posts yet, follow these steps.

1. Log in to your Sked (formerly Schedugram) account, go into your Billing/Profile Settings, and turn on Story posting (as in the image below).

2. To publish posts to your Story or Stories, select one or several of your Instagram accounts. Then select the STORY posting tab on the left of your dashboard.

3. Upload the image or video you want to post to Stories from your computer, Google Drive/Photos, Dropbox, an Instagram URL or Canva. Next, turn on the ‘Story’ switch (green arrow below). For Story post, it is best practice to format your content according to Story dimensions before upload to avoid unintended cropping. Click ‘Continue’.

4. Next, review your posts or add new images to the post. Click ‘Continue’ to proceed.

5. Next, crop, edit or add to each of your images. When you’re done click ‘Continue’ to proceed to schedule and edit your posts.

6. Finally, review your post details by previewing each post, making final edits to your Story image(s) and then scheduling for publishing. You can either send your posts to drafts, add them to your Queue, send it out now or schedule them to be deployed at a later date.

If you’re using an IG business account that has been enabled for IG Story links, enter the URL of the web page you’d like to link your post to. Then, queue or schedule your Story post to publish automatically at a time that best suits your audience.

Instagram Stories have become progressively more important as time has gone by.

Like the early days of Facebook Pages, there was once a time that organic feed posts would often be seen by a meaningful number of people who follow your account. As users have followed more and more people on Instagram, and things like the (continuous) changes to the Instagram algorithm, it’s become harder to get that cut-through that you need without simply resorting to advertising.

Just How Big Are Instagram Stories?

Enter one of the biggest trends on Instagram right now — Instagram Stories.

While the debate is still out as to whether it was just a rip off of Snapchat (probably), it has grown like crazy.

Recode reported in 2017 about the first 12 months of Instagram stories, when there were 250 million (!) posted each day, compared to just 166 million Snapchat stories.

Companies and influencers have rushed to Instagram stories, with some reporting millions in revenue from Instagram Story-specific “episodes” and others reporting it as an excellent conversion channel to get more readers, email signups or purchases from their Instagram audiences.

Given we aim to help our customers deliver the best Instagram marketing possible to their audiences, Sked of course supports Instagram stories. You can read about how to enable it on your account and get started here.

The one thing to keep in mind with Instagram Stories is the various screen ratios that phones have. The ratio that your story will display as will be different depending on whether the person watching it uses an iPhone (~9:16 aspect ratio) versus an iPhone X (~9:19) or Android (pretty much anything goes). In order to get the best result, make sure any text you include is toward the center of the image horizontally, and that you don’t put anything important right at the edges. This will mean that your audience will still see the main messages regardless of what they use.
